Weeknotes 2022.29: Living in a tinderbox
We survived the hot temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, but it was grim in our non air-conditioned flat. Even now it’s still much too warm and the fields everywhere look parched. Some of the plants on our balcony haven’t survived and have turned to a brown crisp.
Hopefully that’s the worst of it for this summer, but I’m not best confident that we won’t get another high-30s baking before October. This is only going to become more common as the climate heats up.
On a slightly brighter note, our alpine strawberries have started ripening. I had the first one on Monday during the heatwave. It was probably a bit too warm to enjoy it, and I’m not sure I picked it at quite the right time, but it was delicious nonetheless.
